Offense Strategy:
Bison outpokes you easily and he moves fairly quickly. You'll be very tempted to go to the air but he has many to handle careless jump-ins. Step Kick is a good way to pressure once you get close but you need to dance around his pokes which is a fairly difficult task. With meter EX Change of Direction is a good way to blow past Bison's pokes at mid-range. On knockdown Bison has few options to defend himself without meter. He can either block or teleport out which can still be punished with a quick dash in. With meter, Bison’s options expand to include EX Head Stomp and EX Psycho Crusher. EX Psycho Crusher is his best option overall as it gets him away from Abel.
Defense Strategy:
Its more likely that Bison will pressure you instead with Double Knee Press, Head Stomp, Devil's Reverse and what not so you need to look for opportunities to knock him down and start your own mix-up. The Double Knee Press knocks the opponent further away now so Bison can't keep up the pressure string for long before pushing you too far away. Block, block and more blocking is what Abel needs to do. Let him get frustrated and take more risks to get through your defense, giving you the opportunity to then counter and start your own.
Notes:
- Bison's jumping MP works like Ryu's and juggles into his ultra.
- Abel's angled jumping HK beats Bison's Head Stomp on reaction (note: Bison can change its direction using his Devil's Reverse).
- Abel can beat out wake up EX Head Stomp by doing a slightly early neutral jumping HK to anticipate it.
- Abel's Ultra 1 will whiff on Bison's Ultra 1 after block while he's still spinning in his Psycho Crusher animation and timing is strict to connect it on landing. Use dash forward, crouching HP into Ultra 1 instead. Abel's Super can connect clean. Ultra 2 also connects easily, wait for him to land.
- Back dashing makes a wake-up EX Head Stomp miss.
- Bison's Ultra 2 has to be blocked standing. The Bison player can be control it in the air to cross-up or hit from the front.
- Bison's Double Knee Press pressure actually doesn't do that much chip damage. You can afford to block until you can figure out a pattern or your next move. Bison's tend to get frustrated and move on to something else after a while.
