vs Chun Li

Statistics:
Stamina: 900
Stun: 1,050
Fighting Style: Chinese Kenpo
Fighter Type: Versatile

vs Chun-li: 4 - 6
Pros: Low stamina, no reversal without meter
Cons: Good normals, fast speed, good pressure game

Move List:
Kintenkishu - First hit follows up into a launch into multiple hits.
Kakusenshu - One of her pokes.
Rear Spin Kick - Good offensive move, crosses up and has fast recovery.
Kakukyakuraku - Usable as an AA, juggles into U2.

Hikouken (HKK) - Projectile move, LP/MP dissipates before hitting full screen.
Spinning Bird Kick (SBK) - Armor breaks. EX SBK is her main reversal option.
Hazanshu (HAZ) - Quick overhead special with fast recovery. Can be done in the air. EX version knocks down.
Hundred Kicks (100K) - Combo ender. EX version juggles into ultra.

Senretsukyaku (S) - Good damage, punish or canceled from her other moves.
Hosenka (U1) - Goes through projectiles, combos from EX 100K.
Kikosho (U2) - So-so damage but easy to combo into and generally used more often than her U1.

Preferred Ultra: Breathless
This actually can work on a variety of her moves, like her Rear Spin Kick, HAZ and even 100K. Easy to punish her EX SBK whiffs too. Her jp.HP hits twice though, breaking armor.

Strategy:
Dancing around the mid-range isn't really a good strategy but you need to find those niche holes to get through. Up close, her nj.HK is a real pain but its kinda floaty. Her throws are also one of the longest in the game, coupled with a great walk speed and you'll be guessing tech throws all day.

On defense Chun Li has very few options. Without meter Chun Li has almost no way to get you off her quickly, her 2 best options being to block or to back-dash which are fairly good options for her. With EX, this changes slightly. Her best AA is her EX-SBK which beats out anything. However, if you block or make her whiff Abel can punish Chun Li with a raw Ultra. So knock her down, mix it up, and make her pay for whiffing those EX SBKs.

Flipside
Chun-Li's pokes are excellent so she'll want to keep her distance some what and zone you out. At mid-range she wins most of the time between cr.HK and st.HP and what not so she'll intend to keep you there. She can easily go from a solid defense to a fluid pressure offensive game which Abel has few answers for.

Notes:
- Chun-Li can immediately press jp.HK as she jumps away to surprise you. You can counter this with Breathless; activate and launch to land on Chun.
- Focus attacks are passable in this match-up if only to avoid the guessing game from Hazanshu (overhead special) and Kouhou Kaiten Kyaku (the cross-over flip kick). Why not block these? Cause the recovery time from these two are so fast, Chun can follow up with tick throws to combos or back into the guessing game again. Focus attack + back dash gets you out and its worth the risk of losing the life from the focus later on.
- EX Spinning Bird Kick is Chun's best "get-off" move. Has invincible frames, a large hit-box and comes out fast. The drawbacks are that this takes meter to use. If Chun does not have meter on a knockdown, attack with impunity. Also, if whiffed Chun has a brief opening. Bait, then BnB combo or raw ultra her.
- Watch out for tick throws, Chun Li has one of the furthest grabs and a fast walk speed.
- Notable pokes to watch out for is cr.HK, st.HK, cr.MP, neutral jp.HK.
- Focusing as an AA in this match is bad cause Chun Li's jp.HP hits twice, breaking the FA and setting her up for a combo. Most good Chun Lis would use this to get in.
