vs Gen

Statistics:
Stamina: 900
Stun: 900
Fighting Style: Mantis/Crane Style Assassination Arts
Fighter Type: Brawler

vs Gen: 6 - 4
Pros: Low stamina, below-average reversals
Cons: Large and unpredictable move toolset

Move List:
jp.MK (crane stance?) - Good cross-up move.

Mantis Stance - Gives Gen access to Mantis stance moves. Gen puts his hands up forward like a mantis.
Hyakurenko (HYA) - BnB combo ender, multiple hits and armor breaks.
Gekiro (GEK) - AA move with decent invul frames, multiple hits.

Crane Stance - Gives Gen access to Crane stance moves. Gen does the karate kid.
Oga (OGA) - Varied attack move for evasion or mix-ups. Gen flies to wall and either does a flying kick or jumps to the ceiling to follow-up with other dive kicks. All kicks are armor breaking.
Jyasen (JYS) - Rolls on ground for multiple hits. Good for chip damage.

Zan-ei (SM) - Dash super, juggles into ultra. Armor breaks.
Zetsuei (U1M) - Dash ultra, used to follow up the juggle from Gen's super. Armor breaks.
Shitenketsu (U2M) - Hit ultra, does decent but recoverable damage. Armor breaks.
Jyakoha (SC) - AA super.
Ryukoha (U1C) - AA ultra, exactly like his Super.
Teiga (U2C) - Air ultra, hits for high damage.

Preferred Ultra: Breathless
I haven't done much testing on this but this counters his funny cross-up move iirc. Also, he's one of those characters who doesn't really have an answer if you do Breathless at the right range in a corner unless he has charge already.

Strategy:
Haven't played with many Gen's in SSF4 to know the match-up, most Gen players I know have moved on to greener pastures following the nerfs. Gen still has some of his tools from vanilla but a lot has changed in SSF4. You'd want to take the fight close up to block out some of his pressure/mix-up options but watch-out for his reversals (e.g. GEK).

Gen has various normals and specials that can mess up your game plan so starting your offense and pressure first before Gen is important to keep momentum in your favor. With his low stamina, Abel can afford to take risks to get in some damage. 1-2combos are all you need to have a good advantage over Gen in life.

Gen is still a force to be reckoned with. If he manages to apply pressure on you, this can be a very difficult match to win. Jump in, JYS pressure and OGA mix-ups are some of your worries. His throw is decently ranged as well. Put up a solid wall best you can and look for a way out rather than try to counter with EX COD or TT as he moves quite a bit. Make some space first, then work your way back in.

Flipside:
- Abel loves to be close to you and has several ways of doing this with Roll. Abel can bypass your Hands (Or any other special for that matter) with his Rolls.
- Step kick allows him to dash next to you... the best thing to do is backdash or Gekiro/EX (Watch out he might bait it if you've done that before!).
- Do not do a normal attack as it will probably get beat out by his Tornado Throw
- Make sure you watch out for his c.HP attack as it is one of his main tools to setting up his Ultra1, or many other combos and mixups that will hurt Gen alot.
- Gen has a nice set of normals that will keep him off your back. You should never lose air to air due to Gens very Strong j.HP in Crane and Mantis.
- What you probably shouldn't do much in this matchup is abuse Oga. On block Abel can do c.Hp or a Tornado Throw or whatever really.
- Using hands is a good tool to keep him off you due to the kickback it has even when blocked.

Notes:
- Teiga must be blocked high.
- His jump height and angle changes between the two stances in SSF4. One makes him jump very high and the other makes him jump low like in vanilla but it is now 3 frames slower.
- To eliminate OGA mix-ups, HK roll through as soon as he reaches the wall.
- Gen is vulnerable to the Breathless trap in a corner if he doesn't keep charge.
